Japanese is taught as the foreign language at Aquinas College. The Japanese program is aimed at providing students with not only a working knowledge of both the spoken and written language, but with a cultural appreciation of one of Australia's largest trading partners.

Here at Aquinas, Japanese is compulsory for students in Years 7 and 8 and becomes an elective for those wishing to continue with their language studies. The Aquinas College Japanese teachers look forward to implementing the new Language Curriculum as prescribed by ACARA in the near future.

Ryokan.jpgHosting experiences are provided throughout the year when the college welcome Japanese students from our sister schools in Japan. Students are given the opportunity to become a "buddy" to our visitors. The exchange program at Aquinas has long standing relationships with Japanese schools and the buddy system ensures lifelong friendships are formed.

All students studying Japanese in Year 10 have the opportunity to participate in a Japan Tour held in September. This cultural and linguistic tour offers students the opportunity to visit our sister schools and visit significant places such as Hiroshima, Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto. Other cultural highlights offered at the college include Japanese restaurant excursions, Obento lunch incursions, anime drawing workshops and Australian cultural days with our visitors.
