The AQ Sustainability Crew - Plant 50 Trees in Celebration of National Tree Day
Aquinas College is proud to announce its early celebration of National Tree Day 2025, with 50 trees being planted by a dedicated group of Year 11 and 12 students on Thursday, 19 June. This environmental initiative forms part of the College’s Social Justice Program and reflects our deep commitment to sustainability, community action and ecological awareness.

National Tree Day, officially held on Friday 25 July 2025, is Australia's largest annual tree-planting and nature care event, led by Planet Ark in partnership with Toyota Australia and their national Dealer Network. Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day unite communities across the country in restoring natural environments and encouraging environmental stewardship.
Under the guidance of Mrs Nicole White, Program Leader for Mission and Identity, and Mrs Elisha Damro, Campus Minister, the Aquinas College community is proud to be part of this important national event.
"It's inspiring to see our students take meaningful action for the environment," said Mrs Nicole White. "This hands-on experience not only enhances their understanding of sustainability but also strengthens their sense of responsibility as stewards of creation. "Planting trees allows them to actively contribute to the environment while taking time away from screens and reconnecting with nature in a real and grounding way." All 50 native trees have been generously donated by Gold Coast City Council and will be planted around the College grounds to enhance biodiversity, provide shade, and contribute to a greener campus for generations to come.
Prefect for Sustainability, Belle Parahi, emphasised the importance of student-led action in environmental care.
“At Aquinas, we believe real change starts with us,” said Belle. “By planting these trees, we’re showing that young people can make a real difference in protecting our planet. Tree planting helps us pause, breathe in the fresh air, and remember our role in caring for the earth.
This tree-planting event is a shining example of the values that define Aquinas College – compassion, leadership, and environmental responsibility. This initiative, supported by the AQ Sustainability Crew, not only aligns with National Tree Day’s goals but also strengthens Aquinas College’s mission to form eco-conscious, socially aware leaders of tomorrow.
